An analysis of EOS-1D Mark III autofocus performance

An Almost Perfect Ten by Ten
Luminous Landscape posts first impressions for the Canon 1D MKIII. The new Canon 1D MKIII might easily be seen as a refresh to the model line, but this is not so. Though it looks much like any of the previous models it is in fact an almost complete rethink on the part of Canon of what a pro-level digital camera should be like.

Rob Galbraith publishes a first look at the Canon EOS-1D Mark III
It's a camera designed to extend Canon's superiority in areas like autofocus and high-ISO image quality, to shore up areas of competitive weakness such as the battery system and camera configuration and to incorporate emerging features like Live View and remote camera access, but do these things better than they've been done before in the digital SLR arena. And while they were at it, Canon opted to increase the EOS-1D Mark III's resolution and frame rate too, relative to the EOS-1D Mark II N it replaces.

Canon software updates
New software updates from Canon include ZoomBrowser EX 5.8b, Digital Photo Professional 3.0 and EOS Utility 2.0 for both Windows and OS X, as well as the Canon RAW Codec 1.0 for Windows Vista. They can all be found on the EOS 30D support page, under Drivers/Software.

Canon EOS 1D Mark III vs Mark II N video
This Imaging Resource video posted to YouTube shows how the new EOS 1D MKIII compares to the MKII N in bare FPS performance. Also on the showcase, the new Compact Flash card removal warning that shows in case the memory card door is opened before the burst buffer was entirely written.

EOS 1D MKIII announced
Canon announced the new king of the hill dSLR body when it comes to shooting performance: the all new 10.1 megapixel CMOS (1.3x crop factor) captures 10 FPS, 110 photos per burst, has two DIGiC-III image processors, an improved AF system, self-cleaning sensor unit, 3" LCD and a mysterious new feature called "live preview".
